on chaistic structures
Charistic structures should be common in all bibles similar to the Hebrew bible and we ought to observe this Hebrew/ Aramaic tradition in the New Testament as well in all translations, for example, consider the A,B, A stucture in Ephesians 4:22, 23, and 24
A That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
B And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
A And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
The punch line or motiff is in the middle line of what the structure surrounds. Thus “putting off”, “the old man” of “deceitful lusts” is contrasted to “putting on”, “the new man”, “true holiness”. The motiff of the stucture is “renewed in mind”.
Another example: the A,B,C,B,A structure in Apocalypse 2:8- 11
....... And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write;
A These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;
B I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
C Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer:
B behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days:
A be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
Again, the motiff at the centre of the structure becomes the main message, being, Don’t fear the tribulations suffered.
